  • Deion Sanders may not be the first celebrity to openly discuss homosexuality in the context of Christianity.

But, of course, his opinion has caused quite a stir.

The NFL Hall-of-Famer recently stopped by Larry King Now on Ora TV, reports Christian Post. The two discussed a number of topics including Michael Sam.

For those who don’t know, Michael Sam caused quite a stir earlier this year when he became the first publicly gay football player to be drafted to an NFL team.

“He’s not the first gay guy in the NFL, he’s the first one to come out,” Sanders told Larry King. “Let’s get that straight.” Sam was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

But unfortunately, he was released from the team shortly after training camp.

Although things didn’t work out with the Rams, he was later picked up by the Dallas Cowboys where he spent the first seven weeks of the 2014 football season on the practice squad.

Unfortunately, he has also been waived from the Cowboys. So, he is currently a free agent. Although Sam isn’t actively playing on a team this season, he was still a topic of discussion due to the controversial aspects of his career.

The 47-year-old legendary wide receiver made it clear he doesn’t support Sam’s homosexual lifestyle, but he does admire his talent.

“I’m not saying I condone it, but I don’t condemn it,” Sanders said. “I don’t love what he (does) but I love him as a man, and I just wanted him to understand the burden and the weight he’s carrying.”

King went on to ask Sanders’ opinion about whether or not he believes homosexuality is a choice. “It could be,” Sanders responded. The famed 80-year-old interviewer decided to delve a little deeper into the controversial topic. He asked if Sanders believed anyone would purposely choose to be homosexual. Sanders responded from a biblical perspective.

“Well, we can get into saying God did this and God did that,” Sanders said. “The God I know don’t make mistakes.”

Deion Sanders later took to Twitter to reiterate his sentiments. He also apologized to those he may have offended. “(I) don’t condone liars, thieves, laziness, manipulators & anything that don’t glorify God but I don’t CONDEMN any1,” Sanders wrote. “I love as God loves. #Truth.”
