David Cassidy Back In Rehab Following DUI

  • It’s back to rehab for former teen idol David Cassidy.

The singer/actor pleaded no contest to his latest DUI charge in court on Monday. He was then ordered to enter alcohol rehab for a period of three months and to participate in a nine-month alcohol education program.

Cassidy was also sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay fines.

In January Cassidy was arrested by a California Highway Patrol officer after he blew a .19 into the Breathalyzer, a number twice the legal limit.

The officer had pulled the 63-year-old over after he was observed making an illegal turn at a red light near the Los Angeles International Airport.

This would be his second arrest for a DUI in half a year.

Fans and onlookers were left to wonder what had happened to Cassidy, who seemed to be finally climbing over the massive slump in his career that many child stars and teen idols experience when they “grow out” of being adored by members of the public.

Jo-Ann Geffen, manager for David Cassidy, said that his relapse into alcohol abuse was brought on by a great deal of stress he is experiencing at present.

Geffen told CNN that Cassidy had been questioned over a dispute involving profits from the “Partridge Family” television show. Cassidy claims that there is money owed to him from merchandising, videos, etc. that he was never paid.

Geffen said that Cassidy had “just completed a stint in rehab and was doing very well in sobriety.”

It was the stress of trying to get monies owed to him by Sony Pictures Television that is alleged to have triggered his alcoholism. Cassidy filed a suit against the company in 2011.

He was in Los Angeles primarily to “attend depositions by Sony Pictures Television.”

Said Geffen, “After attending his and his manager’s depositions, it appears as if the pressure led to a brief relapse.”
