  • Dana White saw the upset that Holly Holm delivered on Saturday during her match against Ronda Rousey, and now he says a rematch is almost inevitable.

White, who is president of the UFC, said on Sunday during an interview with Fox Sports that Holm’s win was obviously a shock to viewers, and that fans are eager for a rematch to find out if it was a fluke or if Holm has what it takes to win a second time.

“A rematch is what a lot of people want to see. Obviously … biggest upset ever. When you look at how Ronda is revered – baddest woman on the planet – definitely,” Dana White said.

Holm shocked audiences when she took Rousey down with a kick to the head, knocking her out and sending her to the hospital. The formerly unbeaten Rousey had gone into the match fired up after the women were involved in a scuffle during their weigh-in and Holm pushed Rousey away with a hand to the face. After the match, Holm said she was down for a rematch and that it made sense.

“I think a rematch makes sense for sure. I’ve been on the losing side of a fight and I wanted the rematch, I wanted to avenge my loss. With a champion like Ronda – who has gone out of her way, above and beyond, to do great things – absolutely she deserves a rematch. I don’t look at this belt and think I’ve made it. I think I still have things that I need to do. I think a rematch, I think that’s kind of unspoken common sense to me,” Holm said.

Rousey was initially going to fight rival Miesha Tate for a third time, but White says he pushed for Holly Holm to get in the ring because he knew what she was capable of.

“I made this fight. This is the fight I went after. Holly – we said it all the time – had the range, uses her distance very well, has great head kicks. Everything we talked about is essentially what went down,” Dana White said.
