  • The “Craigslist Killer”, 19-year old Miranda Barbour, may have confessed to nearly a hundred murders, but officials in at least one state say they can’t link her to any killings there, leading police to believe she may not be telling the truth.

Barbour confessed to dozens of murders last week to Pennsylvania police, saying she had conducted many of them in the name of Satan during her teen years and that they were scattered across the U.S. The confession came after her arrest for the murder of 42-year-old Troy LeFerrara, who had allegedly offered Barbour and her husband money for sex via Craigslist. Barbour said she stabbed LeFerrara several times while her husband choked him with a cord wrapped tight around his neck.

But according to Barbour’s father–and Alaska police officials–her stories should be taken with a grain of salt.

“At this time the Alaska State Troopers are not aware of any information — beyond Barbour’s comments quoted in the press — or evidence that would implicate Barbour with a homicide committed in Alaska,” Alaska State Police spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

Barbour’s father, Sonny Dean, says his daughter is a drug addict who has a history of lying. He does say, however, that there are times from her teen years that he can’t account for and admits that there may be some truth to her stories during those periods.

“Miranda lives in a fantasy world. Believe very little of what Miranda says,” Dean said. “She has a long history of extreme manipulation and dishonesty. The reason I think that the Alaska incident is a possibility is that Miranda ran away from home at least two times that I remember, both for over a 48-hour period. Once was around the age of 13 and once was sometime the following year, when she was 14. I don’t know what took place during either of those 48-hour periods.”

On Tuesday, the FBI issued a statement, saying they were following up on her stories to try and link her to any other murders, but that it will take time.

“The FBI is currently assisting local police in the investigation into whether or not Miranda Barbour is linked to any additional murder victims. It is anticipated that the investigation will take some time to complete,” the statement said.
