  • Comedian Chris Rock is no stranger to controversy. In fact, it is his stock in trade. The outspoken comic has turned heads many times, talking about topics political and racial.

But Rock’s latest stance has caused a stir that has him a bit spooked.

Rock joined other celebrities at an event in Washington, D.C. last year to support President Obama’s gun control agenda.

“I am just here to support the President of the United States,” Rock said when he attended. “The President of the United States is, you know, our boss. He’s also, you know, the president and the first lady are kinda like the mom and the dad of the country and when your dad says something, you listen.”

Another celebrity in attendance at the event was Amanda Peet. Peet had said at the time that she did not think that gun control would cause other rights in the Bill of Rights to unravel.

“I’m quite certain that it won’t infringe on the Second Amendment and that, you know, I have a lot of friends who own guns,” Peet said. “My husband, when I was dating him, used to go to the gun range quite often. It’s important not to be divisive and not to exaggerate the differences and find places where there is consensus.”

In the aftermath of that event, Chris Rock caught a lot of flack from people who threatened violence against him for his opinion. Rock recently told Chelsea Handler about the difficulties he had to deal with in the wake of his appearance.

“I went to D.C. There was like, some rally about gun control,” he said. “I’m not like a gun … like, ‘Get rid of all the guns,’ but I just don’t think people should have machine guns in their house.”

“So I went down there and I, you know, spoke a little bit about, a little bit on gun control. And then I got all these crazy emails and texts back from people cursing me out on my website, like, ‘I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you, you bastard, I’ll shoot you in the head!’ And I was like, ‘You know what? This ain’t worth it,'” he said, adding, jokingly, “You need a machine gun to go against the gun people!”

It sounds like Chris Rock can talk bout racially-charged topics all he likes, but perhaps he should be careful about guns.
