  • Comedian-actor Chris Kattan has been charged with driving under the influence after crashing his car into a highway construction truck.

According to CNN, a California Highway Patrol spokesman reported that the crash took place around 2:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10 on the Ventura Freeway.

Kattan was driving a 2011 Mercedes where a California Department of Transportation crew had been working before 2:00 a.m. He was allegedly weaving in and out of lanes before crashing into a Caltrans truck. His erratic driving raised suspicion of his impairment.

Officer Leland Tang reported that no workers were in the truck at the time of the accident and Kattan, 43, only suffered a bloody nose. However, he also touched on the possibilities that could have occurred if the truck would have been occupied.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Tang said.

Tang also stated Kattan reportedly failed the field sobriety test and was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys precinct where he was booked on the DUI charge.

Kattan released a brief statement in reference to the incident via Twitter. He gave a quick rundown of the events that occurred in the short period of time. He also offered an explanation for his impairment.

Although the Saturday Night Live alum was remorseful, he was also irritable. If his tweets are any indication of the public response he’s received thus far, its safe to say the negative comments are probably pouring in.

Tweets of indignation are slowly starting to matriculate on the social network timeline in reference to the Crazy Enough actor.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department‘s database, Kattan has a court date that has been scheduled for March 3.
