  • Chris Evans fans can finally breathe again, he is not quitting acting.

Recently, Evans made a statement that implied he would retire from acting soon to focus on directing. Directing is one of Evans’ passions and something he wholeheartedly wants to pursue. He told Variety that “if I’m acting at all, it’s going to be under Marvel contract, or I’m going to be directing, I can’t see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I’m contractually obligated to do.”

Evans’ Marvel contract ensures that he’ll appear in at least six movies for them, three of which he’s already filmed: Captain America, Avengers, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Evans is currently filming his fourth Marvel movie, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

He told Good Morning America, “I said that I directed last year. I really responded to it. I really enjoyed it,” I’d love to focus a little bit more on that.” Then he added, “By no means am I planning on retiring. It’s kind of a silly statement. But I certainly am going to try to focus a bit more on directing at this point.”

Evan’s statement to Variety was misconstrued by fans, many of whom believed it meant a permanent declaration of giving up acting. However, it’s not that simple in terms of his Hollywood future.

Evans directed a film called 1:30 Train, a love story about a woman (Alice Eve) who misses her train at the Grand Central Terminal. Therefore, she must spend the night at the station, where she meets a street musician played by Evans. The film had a $3 million budget and took 19 days to film on the Manhattan Lower East side.

In the Variety interview, Evans credits his role in these Marvels movies with giving him enough name recognition to pursue his passion for directing.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens in the US on April 4.
