  • The ABC television network has announced that National Lampoon’s Vacation stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo will be reprising their famous roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold.

According to the Huffington Post, the network is developing a new comedic sitcom as a spin-off to the famous Vacation film franchise. Aaron Kaplan will serve as executive producer for the sitcom. No writers or film studios have been assigned to the project, so there is currently no script or plot as of yet. However, the overall concept of the show has been released.

The new series will center around the Griswold couple, now in their 60s. But, this won’t be a story of some older couple enjoying retirement. They’re now faced with the challenge of raising their grandchildren.

Entertainment Weekly reports that although the show doesn’t have a name, the network is aiming to air the pilot sometime during the 2015-2016 television season. The network’s announcement actually confirms speculation that has been in the air for quite some time. Last year, Variety reported Chase and D’Angelo were considering a reprise their famous roles in a possible Vacation reboot.

The on-screen couple also appeared in a number of Old Navy commercials along with some of the original Vacation cast members. The commercial concepts were partially accredited for the speculation of the reboot.

The show will be Chase’s first return to primetime TV since his stint on NBC’s Community. He appeared on the show for four seasons before departing in 2012. However, D’Angelo will appear in CBS’ upcoming series Friends With Better Lives.

Chase and D’Angelo starred in every Vacation installment, with the first debuting in 1983. Due to the success of the film, European Vacation, Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation were released over the next 15 years.
