  • Actress Charlize Theron, who had recently undergone a minor neck surgery, wore a white scarf to cover up a small bandage across her throat at Variety’s fifth annual Power of Women event in Beverly Hills on Friday.

The 38-year-old actress was injured on the set of 2005’s “Æon Flux” in Berlin, Germany, and suffered a herniated disc in her neck, caused by a fall while filming a series of back handsprings. She wore a neck brace for a month after the accident. “Charlize got injured on a set and broke a vertebrae years ago,” an source told Us Magazine. “It’s been bothering her a lot lately so she had surgery to correct it and they had to go through her neck.”

The injury occurred when something hit Theron on her head, and reports have said that though the star hasn’t been “feeling good post-surgery,” she’s been working to recover quickly.

Theron rose to fame in the late 1990’s, following roles in the films “The Devil’s Advocate”, “Mighty Joe Young” and “The Cider House Rules”. She won the Oscar for best actress for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003’s “Monster”. Theron has also displayed her comedic range with roles in “Celebrity” and “Young Adult,” as well as in her portrayal of the character “Rita”, also known as “Mr. F” (Mentally Retarded Female), on “Arrested Development.”

Here’s Theron’s guest spot on Zach Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns.”

The actress is set to star in the upcoming Mad Max reboot, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, in 2014.
