Casey Casem Receiving “Adequate” Care, Says Judge
Written by Amanda Crum
  • Casey Casem and his wife Jean are caught in the middle of a court battle with both their former housekeeper and Casem’s children from a previous marriage, who say Jean is keeping their father from seeing them. As Casem battles advanced Parkinson’s disease, his children have filed for a conservatorship, which would allow a third party to oversee Casem’s healthcare and finances and make reports to a judge.

But Judge Roy Paul says he doesn’t see a need for the court to intervene after Attorney Samuel Ingham said he found Casem to be receiving adequate medical care; however, the case isn’t closed, as the judge wants to see additional information regarding Casem’s medical care and his doctors.

Jean Casem says her stepchildren have accused her of holding her husband hostage and have said that she is actively keeping him from seeing them, which is not the case.

“My husband is terminally ill and unable to leave home,” she wrote in a sworn declaration. “It is my sincere hope that Casey’s physical surroundings coupled with the attentiveness of the medical providers and the love of his own home and wife and child are comforting to him.” She also made statements that seem to suggest that Casem only has weeks to live, saying she needed a continuance for a few months to allow “the situation to resolve or end, unfortunately.”

The couple also face accusations from former housekeeper Hilda Loza that she was mistreated during her employ; Loza filed a lawsuit for that claim.
