Candace Cameron Bure, who played D.J. on the ’80s sitcom “Full House”, has moved on from the role that made her famous…but that doesn’t mean her fans are ready to let it go.

Bure attended the Starlight Awards on Wednesday–an organization that helps families with sick children–and was reunited with two of her former castmates, John Stamos and Bob Saget. The actors talked about what it’s been like to always be attached to those characters in the minds of the fans, and say it’s really not a bad thing.

“It’s like being in a Big Bird suit,” Saget said, “but it’s an honor having done a show that so many people love. It is a part of culture and it’s not going away. Little kids are watching it now like it just started, so it’s really quite funny. The biggest compliment I get, me especially because I’m the oldest, is, ‘You look the same!’ I’m like, ‘No I don’t, dude, I’m all older and puffy,’ but they’re like, ‘No, no.’

Stamos agrees, saying that if it helps him with charities like Starlight, it can only be a good thing.

“I’ve done so much work since then, but it just doesn’t ever go away. I never tried to run from it, but I’ve really embraced it the last 10 years,” he said. “I’m proud of it and then main thing is that I really feel that Full House helped a lot with Starlight and we helped a lot of kids through Full House through the Uncle Jesse thing to make a lot of kids happy, I could be called worse, right?”

The cast actually had a bigger reunion last September, minus the Olsen twins. Stamos had said before the meetup that he was hoping they could all get together while they were still looking good.

“I think if we’re going to do anything, we should do it while we’re all still looking okay. We should get together and do reunion for TV Land or something,” he said. “I don’t know. It’s 25 years this September since it first started airing, and no matter what I do, that’s how people think of me. I’ve tried in the past to forget it and not be associated with it, but I’ve since learned to embrace it.”
