  • Well, this is awkward. The two major competing military shooters coming out this year decided to release a trailer on the same day. It’s like showing up to a Halloween party dressed as the red Power Ranger because nobody would think to reference your childhood in such a way except you. The only problem is that everybody dressed as the Red Ranger and you showed up late so you’re no longer a trendsetter. Out of the two military shooters, which one is the loser to show up last to the party?

First up is the new trailer for the single-player campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. It lays the drama on thick and lets us know that some famous people like Trent Reznor and David S. Goyer are on board crafting music and story for the title. It’s contemporary and adrenaline fueled entertainment at its finest, or so says the trailer. We’ll find out for sure when the game launches later this year for every platform under the sun.

So how does Medal of Honor: Warfighter stack up to the pretty impressive Black Ops II trailer? Well, Medal of Honor traditionally has a strong single-player campaign, so they have to sell the multi-player to compete with Call of Duty’s traditional strong multi-player. So how does it look? It’s pretty and chaotic. Danger Close definitely took a good look at Battlefield 3 and said, “You know what, we can make this more fun.” It will be available later this year on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

While it might be a bit unfair to compare a single-player trailer with a multi-player trailer, you should blame the publishers. They obviously planned to release these trailers on the same day to convince you one way or the other to buy this year’s big military shooter. I thoroughly enjoyed Black Ops so I’m already set on my camp, but Medal of Honor: Warfighter is looking mighty fine.
