  • If you’re old enough to remember the MTV that played actual music videos (entire videos, not just thirty seconds of a band followed by screaming teenagers in a studio. If you think you detect bitterness, you are correct), you probably remember Ken Marino from a little ’90s sketch comedy show called “The State”. It happens to be one of my favorite shows of all time, but that’s beside the point; it also spawned many, many hilarious projects by the people who wrote and acted in the sketches, including “Reno 911”, “Stella”, “Wet Hot American Summer”, “Party Down”, and a boss podcast called “Risk!” done by Kevin Allison.

One of the newest projects by State member Ken Marino is called “Burning Love“, and it looks to be hilarious. It’s launching on the Yahoo! Comedy Channel on June 4th, a web-exclusive that spoofs “The Bachelor” and shows in a similar vein. It stars Marino as appearance-obsessed Mark Orlando, a firefighter looking for true love with a total stranger. Marino also directs the show and there’s even a Twitter account for Mark, which keeps us updated on his exploits until the show premieres.

According to the show’s page on Yahoo!, it “gives viewers a front row seat to the champagne toasts, candles, heartbreak, bubble baths, chocolate, choreography, hair extensions, roller skating, betrayal, spray-tans, and rainbows in the most romantic, comedic web series ever made”. Take a look:

The show sees Marino partnering up with some of his old pals, including Adam Scott from “Party Down” and Michael Ian Black, a former State cast member.

I can’t seem to find my favorite Ken Marino/State moment on YouTube (a stage production of “Tenement”), so enjoy my second favorite.
