Bruce Jenner: Why is Transition Docu-Series On Hold?

  • Bruce Jenner hasn’t been far from the headlines in recent months. Between his recent car accident in which a neighbor of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians clan was killed, and his impending transition from a man to a woman, he’s been front and center in the media. Now, however, it seems he’s stepping back–in one way–from the press.

It wasn’t so long ago that Diane Sawyer snagged an exclusive interview with Bruce Jenner that was said to be scheduled for airing in May. That was to be followed by a docu-series that was to follow his transition process.

Now that docu-series is on hold.

“Bruce’s primary goal is to bring awareness to this issue in order to help others [in the transgender community],” a source with ‘knowledge of the situation’ reports. “He is not sure that E! and a reality show is the best format to do that.”

Bruce Jenner apparently “wants this to be taken seriously so that [his situation] can have the most positive impact on society’s perception of the transgender community,” the source adds.

Bunim/Murray is the production company Bruce Jenner was working with to create the docu-series. Now he’s not sure the company is a good fit to chronicle his transition.

“He wants to explore other options,” the source explains. “But Bunim/Murray are making him feel trapped in his contract and are not allowing him to explore other avenues to tell his story.”

RadarOnline reports that Bruce dresses in drag at home, and has a closet filled with a fashionable array of women’s clothing. He certainly has lots of people in his family who can help him make the right fashion choices. With daughter Kendall Jenner walking runways around the world, and Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim Kardashian constantly adding to their clothing line, Bruce has a wealth of fashionista advice at his fingertips. Do you suppose he simply needs some more time to feel comfortable in his new gender role before proceeding with his docu-series?

If the fit with his production company–or anything else about this docu-series–doesn’t feel right, then kudos to Bruce Jenner for putting the entire project on hold. This isn’t a peak inside a ‘freak show,’ but rather a very serious transition that requires a very difficult balance of facts and entertainment.

It will be interesting to learn when plans for this docu-series are back in motion.
