Brooke Shields Holds No Malice Toward Tom Cruise, Sort-Of Slams Ex-Husband Andre Agassi

  • Brooke Shields opened up recently about her past issue with Tom Cruise, regarding their public feud over her endorsement of prescription drugs for the treatment of postpartum depression.

It was during a chat with Jenny McCarthy on her SiriusXM radio show that she admitted to holding no malice toward the actor heavily rooted in the Church of Scientology. In fact, she and husband Chris Henchy attended Cruise’s wedding to Katie Holmes. Brooke Shields got lots of flack for doing so, however.

“Life is too short,” she told McCarthy of the old feud. “I’m sure there are people that have strong, negative opinions about me, but I don’t have the time.”

She also spoke of Tom Cruise’s apology to her.

“He came over to my house. It was funny because when he called me, he said, ‘I’d like to have a sit-down and a talk with you.’ I called my publicist, and I said, ‘OK, what do I do?’ She said, ‘Whatever you do, don’t go over there. Just make them come to you, and it’s on your terms. You don’t have cameras, you don’t know,’ ”Brooke Shields recalled, referring to the rumors about Tom Cruise’s controversial Scientology ties. “So he came over to the house and didn’t come with anybody, drove himself, there wasn’t anybody outside.”

Later, Katie Holmes personally invited Brooke Shields to their wedding.

These days Brooke is far more upset with ex-husband Andre Agassi’s publisher than she is with Tom Cruise. On Thursday, she appeared on Watch What Happens Live!, when the subject of Agassi’s new book, Open: An Autobiography came up. A caller asked Shields what she thought of the book, and she was very honest.

“Oh, I only read the parts I was in,” she said. “I was asked to read it by him so that I could correct things that I believed were not correct, because he told me his memory was not that good. So he called me in and I spent five hours with his ghostwriter.”

Brooke Shields, who graduated with a degree from Princeton, added, “I write my own books, FYI. Anyway!”

She then went on to explain how she made the needed corrections to Andre Agassi’s book, only to find when it was published that none of her tweaks were recognized.

“I corrected things that were not as I remembered them chronologically. I have diaries of everything,” she explained. “Then I got a letter back that said, ‘I’m so sorry I couldn’t change anything because it wasn’t how I remembered it.’ It’s the oldest trick in the book and I just didn’t get it.”

On the upside, however, Agassi didn’t depict Brooke Shields negatively.

“With all due respect, I did not come across as badly as people might have thought that he wanted,” she said. “That’s not who he is. He’s not an evil person.”

Brooke Shields certainly seems to have a very forgiving heart. Not only did she forgive Tom Cruise’s tactless public comment about postpartum medication, she also speaks very kindly of her ex-husband.

Would you have had such grace under both of these situations?
