Bindi Irwin Opens Up About Losing Her Father

  • Bindi Irwin made the tears roll earlier this month on Dancing with the Stars when her and partner Derek Hough danced an amazing tribute to her late father, Steve Irwin.

After dancing, Bindi Irwin broke hearts as she broke down in tears.

We all knew him as the fearless Crocodile Hunter, but to little Bindi Irwin he was just Dad.

Bindi Irwin was just eight years old when her dad was killed by a stingray when filming a documentary series called Ocean’s Deadliest in 2006.

Since his death, Bindi Irwin, her mother and her 11-year-old brother, Robert, have carried on his legacy of love for wildlife and his message of conservation.

I love you. Thank you for always being with me, wherever I go.

This week, Bindi Irwin has opened up a little more about what it was like to lose her dad.

Bindi Irwin tells People, “Dad was the strongest person I’ve ever known. And when the strongest person is taken away, you kind of go, ‘Oh my goodness. What are we going to do?'”

Bindi Irwin also described how the loss brought her and her family closer together.

She said, “As a family, we’ve gotten so close. The three of us, no matter where we are in the world, we’ll always stick together.”

She added, “We can count on each other on the good days and bad days.”

They are definitely sticking together as Bindi Irwin continues her run on Dancing with the Stars as a clear fan favorite. In fact, her mother and brother made the temporary move to Los Angeles to be with her while she competes.

After this week’s second perfect score for Bindi Irwin’s spooky vampire dance with her partner, Derek Hough, it looks like the three of them will be in L.A. for quite a while longer.

What do you think about Bindi Irwin and her life after her father’s death?
