  • Just because he can, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his family are currently vacationing in Sardinia on a rented 450-foot, $330 million yacht.

The Serene is the third most expensive yacht in the world and will cost the computer entrepreneur a mere $5 million a week to cruise his way around the beautiful Italian waterways.

Gates, whose estimated worth is $76 billion, is expected to spend three weeks on the yacht with his wife, Melinda, and their three children, Rory, Jennifer and Phoebe.

The yacht, owned by Stolichnaya vodka magnate Yuri Scheffler, features 12 state rooms, a private nightclub, a climbing wall, a gym, a seawater swimming pool, a movie theater and two hot tubs. If that’s not enough, there’s also a full library, health spa, an underwater viewing room and — get this — a submarine hanger.

    A submarine hanger? Really?

For day trips to enjoy some shopping and sightseeing on land, there is a helicopter on standby to whisk guests ashore.

Anyone else feeling a little depressed right now?

This could be a real issue for some, but considering the generous philanthropist donates billions to help fight against disease and poverty, he might just get away with spending millions on a vacation. After all, it’s really just pocket change for him.

In April, Gates urged China’s wealthiest people to tackle the country’s poverty levels.

“China has many successful entrepreneurs and business people … I hope that more people of insight will put their talents to work to improve the lives of poor people in China and around the world, and seek solutions for them,” Gates wrote in the People’s Daily. “Investing for the poor requires participation from the entire community.”
