  • Ben Roethlisberger has been a big part of the Steelers franchise for a while now, and due to the team cutting veteran players because of salary caps, it’s been rumored that Roethlisberger will be the next to go. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the quarterback has been increasingly unhappy with where he is, anyway.

“Ben Roethlisberger is not happy,” Rapoport said. “[He’s] incredibly frustrated with the direction the franchise is headed.”

Rapoport also reported that the Steelers might trade Roethlisberger if they thought they might be able to replace him with a “franchise quarterback”, but he shot down that rumor last week.

“I want to stay. My family wants to stay. I want to finish my career here. I’ve always said that,” Roethlisberger said. “I hope that’s very clear to everybody. When someone is a source and they’re unnamed, they have an agenda, and that agenda is not winning football games and not helping this team. And whoever the agenda is coming from, they’re not helping us. They’re hurting us. There’s no way it’s coming from in the building because, if it is, they would come talk to me. I think my résumé speaks for itself on what I’ve done in the past — winning championships and football games.”

After the team’s win over Buffalo last week, the quarterback said that the rumors that are flying around about him are “Completely unacceptable. One of the most BS stories I’ve ever heard.”

The quarterback is on track to have his best season yet, with career highs in both yards and completions if he keeps up the pace. During Sunday’s game against the Lions, Roethlisberger came in late in the game with crucial throws to ensure their 37-27 victory.

“He did a good job,” Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch said. “Big Ben keeps plays alive and he did what he does best.”
