  • “Beatlejuice 2” looks to be officially in the works, and Michael Keaton is in talks to reprise his role as the striped-suit-wearing, fast-talking ghoul who made it his duty to scare a pair of yuppies back to the city.

Tim Burton is also back for the sequel, according to The Wrap, and Seth Grahame-Smith, author of “Pride And Prejudice And Zombies”, is preparing the screenplay. Grahame-Smith also worked with Burton on “Dark Shadows” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”.

For many of Burton’s fans, it will be a lovely change to see him return to something they grew up with, but it’s hard to envision what a new Beetlejuice movie might look like. Will we see the sandworm again? Will Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin show up? Is Winona Ryder going to calypso? So far there are few answers about the script or cast, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Of course, there’s been talk of a sequel for years; Keaton was quoted in 1996 as saying he was on board and waiting for a script to be written.

“I’d love to do a Beetlejuice’ followup. It’s something Tim Burton and I have discussed endlessly,” Keaton said. “It’s a matter of the right script, but I hope it happens.”

The film is the latest in a string of sequels announced this year, including “Dumb And Dumber To” and “Jurassic World”.
