  • Rovio Entertainment, the makers of the wildly popular Angry Birds series, today released a spin-off game called Bad Piggies.

Bad Piggies tells the story of the bird/pig rivalry established in the Angry Birds games, only from the pigs’ point of view. Instead of flinging themselves in the direction of the eggs they so desperately want, the pigs are clever and use inventions to outsmart the angry birds. Bad Piggies will challenge gamers to construct contraptions that will transport the pigs to their destination and steal those precious eggs. The game is set on “Piggy Island,” where the pigs are attempting to construct a flying machine to raid angry bird nests.

“We’ve never done anything like this,” said Petri Järvilehto, executive vice president of games at Rovio. “Where Angry Birds was all about destruction, Bad Piggies is all about the joy of construction. It’s not just about getting three stars — in this game, failing is almost as much fun as succeeding!”

The game has over 60 levels and free updates will be coming in the future. There are also four sandbox levels where players can use the 33 different objects found in the game to create whatever machine they can imagine.

Bad Piggies is available now for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC. Rovio says a Windows Phone version of the game is coming soon.

Rovio also released launch trailer for the game today, showing through an animated short just how Bad Piggies will work as a game and how often players can expect the pigs to fail:
