  • After months of teasing, Ubisoft has finally released Assassin’s Creed Pirates. The title is a mobile game that simulates the ship battles and sailing seen in the main-series title Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It is available today for $5 for smartphones and tablets via the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, and the Amazon Appstore.

    Pirates is set during the “Golden Age” of piracy – the same time period as Black Flag. Players will play as rookie pirate Captain Alonzo Batilla as he searches for something called La Buse’s treasure. Starting out with a simple ship and crew, players will engage other ships in real-time combat to gain the materials necessary to upgrade their fleet. Some of the famous pirates of the period, such as Blackbeard, will also make an appearance in the game.

    Along with the launch Ubisoft today released a launch trailer for the game. It shows what appears to be a fairly robust ship battle game for mobile platforms. Ubisoft has been touting the new mobile engine it created for Pirates, and the effort has at least produced some nice visuals for a mobile game:
