  • Apple has just put out their version of a year-in review list, called iTunes Best of 2012. In it, Apple makes its editorial picks for the top apps, games, music and movies of the year.

This year, Action Movie FX takes the top app honors. That free app allows users to “add Hollywood FX to iPhone and iPad movies that you shoot.”

In the iPhone games category Apple chose Rayman Jungle Run, which is $2.99.

When it comes to the iPad, the top app of the year is Paper, a mobile creation app that lets users “capture their ideas as sketches, diagrams, illustrations, notes, or drawings and share the, across the web.” It’s also free.

The top iPad game is The Room, a room-by-room puzzle game.

For last year’s iTunes Rewind 2011, Apple named Instagram the top app of the year and Tiny Tower the best game of the year. They also called Flipboard the best “new app” for 2011.

If you trust Apple’s taste in music and film, they have some selections for you in those categories as well. Apple’s top music comes from Frank Ocean, Grizzly Bear, Fun, and The Lumineers. Apple’s picks for the top movies of the year are The Avengers, Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and The Hunger Games.

Breaking Bad, Homeland, and HBO’s Girls top the TV category.
