Apple Censors “Jailbreak,” Thin Lizzy Album Now An Obscenity

  • Do you know how much Apple hates jailbreaking? Apparently, it’s enough to label the mere mention of it as an obscenity, worthy of the full “**********” treatment. That’s right, searches within iTunes for anything relating to “jailbreak” now shows “j*******k” instead. Somehow, that just makes it sound so much dirtier, Apple.

What makes this super funny is Apple’s apparent lack of discrimination when it comes to censoring the world-that-must-not-be-spoken.

As fans of one particular Irish rock band might have already surmised, collateral damage includes Thin Lizzy and their sixth studio album “Jailbreak.” Here you go:

The odd bit of censorship was first discussed on Twitter. Not only has Thin Lizzy been demonized, but “j*******k” is appearing within iBooks as well.

Apparently, this is only a U.S. issue, as Shoutpedia confirms that the word “jailbreak” is alive and well in other countries’ iTunes stores.

For Apple, the animosity toward the word “jailbreak” is unsurprising – but this seems like a bit much, don’t you think? As far as the iOS 5.1 jailbreak (sorry, j*******k) goes, it’s reportedly “weeks away,” but getting closer.
