Anne Hathaway found out the hard way just how rough the waves can be in Hawaii during winter when she got caught in a riptide on Wednesday and couldn't get out.

The "Les Miserables" actress was vacationing in Oahu with husband Adam Shulman when the waves pulled her under and she began screaming to a nearby surfer for assistance. Luckily, she was pulled out of the water just in time, but she injured her foot on a reef as she came to shore. Shulman proved to be handy with a first aid kit, however, and bandaged her right up. You can see the scary photos of the incident here.

Hawaii is beautiful year-round, but tourists have to be careful when swimming during the winter months because the surf is incredibly rough. However, whale-mating season comes in the winter as well, and the creatures can often be seen breaking the surface, which makes up for the scary waves.

Hathaway made headlines recently when she decided to leave a bag of dog poop on the windshield of a paparazzo's car; apparently, she doesn't take too kindly to being followed around with a camera.
