Anna Wintour has opted to douse water on the latest media firestorm.
Since the unveiling of Vogue magazine's April issue, Wintour has been a victim of negativity due to her decision to feature Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the cover of the fashion and lifestyle magazine.
When the cover was unveiled on Friday, Mar. 21, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and the Yeezus rapper immediately became the center of scrutiny.
Some have found Wintour's decision so outlandish that rumors have begun circulating, insinuating that West begged her to be on the cover of the magazine.
However, the Vogue editor-in-chief has decided to set the record straight and put an end to all of the speculation. All of the rumors are completely false.
According to Hello magazine, the 64-year-old editor released an open letter, firing back at the media. She expressed that the famed couple has "a quality that many stars can’t champion, no matter how famous."
She also made it clear that her business dealings with West have nothing to do with marketing as a means of "selling more covers."
"You may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue's cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn't true,” she clarified.
“There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason,” she said.
She went on to speak fondly of the two, sharing her opinion of the couple. “Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.”
Wintour also expressed that although they've created a "certain buzz in the media," she'd like for readers to make an effort to see them from her point of view.
"Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it," she said.
"I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or Perhaps that should be to a K?)," she quipped.
