Anna Kendrick has become known just as much for her singing voice as she has for her acting chops, so it’s no surprise that her new movie, The Last Five Years, showcases her pipes yet again.

The film is based on a popular musical and stars Kendrick and Smash alum Jeremy Jordan as a desperately in-love couple who sing their way through their relationship, only one tells the story from beginning to end and the other tells it from end to beginning. Here’s a synopsis, according to SlashFilm:

The Last Five Years by Tony award winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown is a musical deconstruction of a love affair and a marriage taking place over a five year period. Jamie Wellerstein is a young, talented up and coming novelist who falls in love with Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through songs using an intercutting time line device; all of Cathy’s songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time to the beginning of their love affair while Jamie’s songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. Its beautiful pop music score portrays an honest, heartbreaking, often funny, exploration of love and it’s consequences on individual identity.

Kendrick currently stars in Into The Woods, which also showcases her singing talent; the film recently made headlines when it was revealed that Meryl Streep very nearly had a nasty accident on set when she jumped on a table in a small stunt, but was saved by her pregnant co-star, Emily Blunt.

“She starts to fall back, head first. Time slowed down and I thought, ‘I’m about to watch Meryl Streep die. It’s happening.’ I wish I could say I didn’t consider my own career in this and think, ‘This film’s gonna go down the (bleep).’ Rob Marshall freezes . . . The person who stepped in to save her life that day was not the two men in the room, but the pregnant woman leaps forward, catches Meryl Streep, and Rob and I were just like, gasp,” actor James Corden said.

The Last Five Years is reportedly due out around Valentine’s Day.
