  • Amy Schumer has discussed gun control before, and the latest shootings in San Bernardino had her take to Twitter again to urge her followers to demand background checks for all gun purchases.

“This is absolutely heartbreaking-all my love to everyone in San Bernardino especially the first responders. These shootings must stop,” she tweeted.

“It doesn’t have to be this way. join the movement and help us #endgunviolence.”

Of course, her tweets were met with significant backlash.

“I did not write take away all guns. Just for background checks. Take a breath and help stop gun violence,” she responded.

Schumer, of course, has ties to a mass shooting that took place in July. About 20 minutes into a showing of her latest movie Trainwreck, a gunman opened fire in a Lafayette, Louisiana movie theater.

Schumer recently spoke out at the Glamour Awards.

“If you’ve been convicted of domestic violence or if you’re severely mentally ill, I don’t think you should be able to get a gun. That seems pretty simple, but my reaction that I’ve gotten from that is … ‘She wants to take our guns’!” said Schumer.

In October, Amy Schumer teamed up with her cousin, New York Senator Chuck Schumer, to call for stricter gun laws. She called for legislation that would expand background checks and get rid of loopholes that allow people to purcahse firearms at gun shows and online without these checks.
