  • In a cancer battle, it is sometimes more about a person’s state of mind than their actual health. Amy Robach is aware of this and in order to empower herself and help take the power away from cancer, she has cut her hair short. The 40-year-old ABC News journalist appeared on Good Morning America Wednesday to debut her new cut.

“We know in our line of work that appearance is important — and it’s important to anybody and everybody, really — and I decided I was going to take control of one thing away from the cancer, so I got my hair cut,” she said of her new makeover.

Robach was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and has had a double mastectomy and two rounds of chemotherapy in order to remove the cancer from her body. She is still scheduled to receive several more chemo treatments over the next few months. She has blogged about her experience with cancer and her treatment in hopes of helping other women cope with the devastating disease. It was after her second round of chemo that she noticed her hair beginning to fall out.

She used her blog to explain her recent haircut further saying,

“One of my first questions admittedly was: Will I lose my hair?” “It sounds shallow I know, but it was a very scary image to me. Having cancer is one thing, LOOKING like you have cancer is another thing. It’s a disease that already takes so much.”

“Waiting and watching my hair fall out made me once again feel so powerless and so I decided to take control,” she continued. “I wanted other women to know they are not alone,” she writes. “I wanted my sisters to know that being brave is the only way to live with cancer … and today I feel powerful.”
