Amy Lindsay used to be a porn star. She’s come a long way since those days, especially since she recently appeared in a campaign ad for Ted Cruz.

Unfortunately for Lindsay–and for Cruz, too–the actress’s past came up, resulting in the ad getting axed.

The advertisement featured actors portraying a group of former Marco Rubio supporters as they took part in a group therapy session.

Amy Lindsay said in a recent interview she believed the inclusion of someone with her porn star background was intentional, adding it might improve the stuffing image Ted Cruz has in the media.

“It’s not just some old, white Christian bigot that people want to say, ‘It could be, maybe, a cool kind of open-minded woman like me,’ ” she said.

Meanwhile the Cruz camp is quickly trying to do damage control. A spokesperson for the campaign told BuzzFeed they had no idea Amy Lindsay used to be a porn star.

“The actress responded to an open casting call. She passed her audition and got the job,” Rick Tyler told the site.
