“American Idol” saw more than one winner last night, and although folksy crooner Phillip Phillips took home the title, two of the show’s vets went home an engaged couple.

While many fans of the show didn’t realize Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young–season 3 and season 5 contestants, respectively–were even an item, they have actually been dating for more than two years as they’ve traveled the AI circuit together and even did Broadway. Ace helped Diana with her latest album and the couple co-wrote a song for her character on the daytime soap “The Young And The Restless”.

As thousands of fans cheered him on, Ace bent to one knee on live television and popped the question as Diana stood speechless and teary-eyed.
