At first glance, you might say that up and coming Ukrainian internet sensation Alina Kovalevskaya does favor a Barbie doll.

However, it’s far more accurate to say she is “doll-like” than to compare her with the Mattel product.

Kovalevskaya herself credits ball-jointed dolls as the inspiration for her look.

She said that she uses special eye contacts to achieve her look. Kovalevskaya also claims to have not had plastic surgery (but with the magic of Photoshop, surgery is rarely necessary…)

The newest “Human Barbie” is only 18 months into her new look and is but one of many young women in Odessa, Ukraine who is obsessed with looking like a living doll.

The most famous is of course Valeria Lukyanova.

The 28-year-old Lukyanova rose to international fame thanks to her looks and Youtube videos. It is a path to stardom that Kovalevskaya seems to be following as well.

The difference between the pair is that unlike 21-year-old Kovalevskaya, Lukyanova had maintained a place in the spotlight thanks to a revealing VICE documentary, claiming to live off of air and light, and eyebrow-raising comments about race.

Lukyanova sparked worldwide outrage after her interview with GQ, when she said that she was repulsed by “race mixing” and blames it for the “degeneration of beauty standards”.

Perhaps her questionable commentary has led to a search for a new human doll for the public to obsess over. In a city like Odessa, it’s not that hard to find.

As it stands, Kovalevskaya is the new darling of the scene.

Interestingly enough Kovalevskaya admits that she was briefly friends with Lukyanova and that things turned sour between the two of them.

Said Kovalevskaya, “I have had certain misunderstandings with her, after which she ceased to communicate.”

Lukyanova, like many narcissistic individuals with delusions of grandeur, has trouble making and keeping friends.

Kovalevskaya isn’t too bothered. She said, “I realized that [Lukyanova] is not a person with whom I would like to talk or even be friends.”

As long as Kovalevskaya refrains from Lukyanova’s level of annoying behaviors and opinions, perhaps her popularity will continue to grow.
