  • After winning the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship belt, Albuquerque, NM, will be welcoming hometown hero and new UFC queen, Holly Holm, with a champion’s parade on Sunday, December 6.

Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry revealed that the city is planning to hold a celebration to honor Holm. City councilors of Albuquerque also declared the month of November as “Holly Holm Month”

The parade is set to start by 1 p.m. and will end by 3 p.m. The homecoming parade will start at First Street and Central Avenue and will continue west to 6th Street and then head north on 6th Street to Tijeras Avenue. The parade will then move east on Tijeras to 3rd Street and end at Civic Plaza where people will gather for a celebration. Local band, The Norms will perform at the event.

“The excitement I saw the night of the event is something really special, so I want to make sure there’s a special, really good homecoming,” said Berry.

Mayor Berry, together with Councilor Dan Lewis, Councilor Klarissa Peña, Commissioner Art de la Cruz, the Bernalillo County Commission and the Albuquerque City Council will be present at the homecoming parade.

Attendees at the event can donate nonperishable goods and winter clothes for the Albuquerque Rescue Mission and the Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home.

It will also be good opportunity for UFC fans to get one of the three signed photos of the reigning UFC champion, which will be auctioned off at the event. The proceeds will go to the Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home.

Holly Holm dethroned formerly undefeated UFC champion Ronda Rousey on November 14 in their title fight in Australia. “The Preacher’s Daughter” was able to snatch the title from Rousey with a flawless kick to the head in the second round of the main event. Holly Holm now has a 10-0 record after knocking out the heavily favored women’s bantamweight queen.
