  • Adele now officially has the only album to hit number one two years in a row on Billboard’s Best-Selling list since the company began charting sales in 1991.

The British sensation wowed music lovers in 2011 with “21”, an album full of love songs and love-gone-wrong songs which immediately captured the attention of a wide array of fans.

“It’s a sort of a once-in-a-lifetime album – only a few of these albums come along in history,” said Keith Caulfield of Billboard Magazine. “She really crossed over from pop to Latin to adult contemporary to dance. Young and old consumers bought it, and because of its mixture of fans, she was able to sell it as well as she did.”

Taylor Swift, Mumford and Sons, and One Direction rounded out the top five on the list with One Direction taking both the number 3 and number 5 spots (“Up All Night” and “Take Me Home”, respectively).

Adele had a big 2012 in other ways, as well; she gave birth to her first child, a son, with parter Simon Konecki.
