  • According to the producers of the annual Soul Train Awards, this year’s celebration will blow us all away when it airs next month.

The awards show that could be mistaken for a large, well-organized party that still somehow has that feel-good family reunion atmosphere was held this past weekend at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Each year, the Soul Train Awards honor the legends of soul and urban music and recognizes its outstanding performers of the past year. Some of this year’s performers include Gladys Knight, T.I., Bobby Caldwell, Chaka Khan, Faith Evans, Vanilla Ice and Big Daddy Kane, and honors were bestowed to mainstays Dionne Warwick and Keith Sweat for their musical contributions. Notable newcomers Kendrick Lamar, nominated for six Soul Train Awards this year, won the coveted Album of the Year award for “Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City,” and Tamar Braxton left with three awards including the Best R&B/Soul Female

Artist over Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys and other tough competitors.
Be sure to grab your friends and get your popcorn (and your Twitter and Facebook) ready as you check out the celebration for yourself when it airs on December 1st at 8 p.m on BET and Centric.
