Zooey Deschanel had a baby girl in August, and shortly beforehand married baby daddy Jacob Pechenki. Presently on maternity leave, her New Girl character Jess will soon rent out her room on the hit Fox series. It will be rented to a character played by Megan Fox while Zooey Deschanel enjoys the remainder of her maternity leave.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Zooey Deschanel's character will be called to sequestered jury duty several episodes into the upcoming season of New Girl, hence the reason for renting out her room.

Megan Fox's character--named Reagan--is a pharmaceutical sales rep, "who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft.”

“It’s insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it,” executive producer Liz Meriwether tells EW. “I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since This is 40, and I’m so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part--she’s the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up.”

Zooey Deschanel will still star in the first few episodes of the upcoming season of New Girl, which premieres in January. Megan Fox arrives during the sixth episode.

This upcoming role will denote Megan Fox’s first major TV gig in about a decade, having last had a series regular role on ABC’s Hope & Faith. Fox arranged to take on the New Girl role in addition to her duties on the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel.

Do you expect Zooey Deschanel fears any future competition from Megan Fox? Might she in any way jeopardize her popularity on New Girl?

That's likely the last thing on Zooey Deschanel's mind. She is likely at home, enjoying life as a mom and wife, with her beautiful baby and handsome husband.
