Jerry Yang seems to have learned how to bluff at the (unattached) feet of Monty Python’s Black Knight.  Yahoo’s CEO claimed at a conference last night, "To this day the best thing for Microsoft to do is buy Yahoo."

So here we go with round 243 of the Microsoft-Yahoo mess.  It remains impossible to say whether anything will get accomplished, as both companies have gone back and forth, blaming each other for the breakdown of negotiations.  Also, in regards to Yahoo’s asking price – the main sticking point – Yang only mumbled something about "the right price whatever that price is."

Yahoo’s stock now sits about 25 percent lower than it did before Microsoft first made an offer ($14.40 vs. $19.18), of course, and would probably be lower still except for a rumor yesterday that Yang was quitting.

Since Yang was speaking on the record at the Web 2.0 Summit, it at least appears that he’s attempting to restart negotiations, though.  And according to Caroline McCarthy, he did state, "We are willing to sell the company."

Interpret the development as you like, then.  And for your consideration (and/or some laughs), here’s one more Black Knight-esque quote: Yang said, "I don’t regret any minute of what happened."
