The President-Elect Captured Backstage At Victory Speech

At a time when Yahoo is struggling through job cuts, failed Google deals, and rejected ideas of the company still getting offers from Microsoft, at least one Yahoo property – Flickr – got some traffic juice as a result of the Presidential election.

One photographer who apparently has a somewhat close relationship with the President-Elect, was lucky enough to get some backstage shots before and after the historic speech Obama gave.

This will probably have a bigger impact on photographer David Katz’s career than it will on Yahoo’s future, but it will no doubt point a great deal of people Flickr’s way, and that isn’t a bad thing for them. Unless of course, if the site is crashed when you try to visit it, as Nicholas Carlson at Silicon Alley Insider indicates that it has. He also notes that there are no ads present when you view the photos, so they’re not getting any money from that, but it still can’t hurt for branding purposes. This is the next President of the United States we’re talking about. Not to mention the historical significance of his election.

And like Ryan Tate at Gawker notes, "In some prior election year, the behind-the-scenes footage of a president-elect’s first moments might have been captured by a photographer for, say, Life, or at least distributed through a glossy magazine like that."

A search for Obama on Flickr will bring up a great deal of other pictures too, though I doubt a very large percentage of them are exclusive, and of the ones that are, there is probably not one that captures such a personal moment as some of Katz’s, which took place just around the time Barack Obama achieved the greatest victory of his life. If you can get there, check out Katz’s gallery.

All things considered, Election day was a good boost for Yahoo Traffic. Yahoo News was also the top site for the day.

When I recently searched for a web service to host our family’s pictures, I decided to look for a paid for service that did what I wanted: hosted unlimited pics at full resolution of the original canon dslr camera, that is 8 or so megapixels. So now I can back up my pics and if my house gets completely wiped out, I’ll still have my pics. Hate to sound like a commercial or that I’m somebody from yahoo or flickr endorsing it, but I found no other service in comparison. And the price is very reasonable at 25.00 a year. I’d hate to see flickr go away.

Get over it, the guy is evil and self-serving! Chicago thug -politics at its worst, the end of American freedoms that we and our forefathers have enjoyed. It’s a sad, sad time for America!

Deb, you are what’s wrong with this country!  You act as if things have been good for the last eight years! You want to believe that Barack Obama is a thug; is that because you’re a thug?  And how do you know about thug-politics in Chicago?  Barack certainly can’t do any worse than the last eight yeears!  Maybe there’s a country you can relocate to, since you’re sad about the country’s state of affairs!  Did you forget that a lot of our liberties were taken after 9/11?  We had a president who didn’t follow the constitution and governed however he felt.  And you think that Obama is a thug!  You need counseling!  Get a Grip!!!

Bush was evil and self serving and a liar  he had low ratings.  You need to know that Demcrats take care of familes and workers.  They don’t send jobs overseas.  Republicans only take care of companies and the wealthy.  And too much money would have been spent on these 2 wars.  What did Bush lie about?  Weapons of mass distruction, there was no weapons of mass distruction.  Give Obama a chance, you will think differently after a year in office.

May the President elect maintain strength to help lead and guide a nation that has lost its way.

Did you know that we have people who are "Willingly Ignorant" and would vote for a fat baldheaded drug addict named Rushing Limberg as President and his son Hannity as the vice president…. This is why we need Obama. The white in him understand them and the black in him knows how to counter them.
