  • Yahoo is reportedly going to start making users of its various services sign in with Yahoo accounts.

According to Reuters, the company is set to start gradually rolling out the requirement of a Yahoo ID in order to use services including its fantasy sports offerings and Flickr.

A spokesperson is quoted as saying the move will allow the company to “offer the best personalized experience to everyone.”

This is an interesting move considering that Yahoo recently gave away a lot of its inactive IDs. Anyone who had one of these is going to have to sign up for a new one if they ever want to use Yahoo’s services again, apparently.

The move does show that Yahoo is looking to become more of an independent entity offering a collection of services to compete with its web giant peers.

This is in line with its reported intentions of distancing itself from a search and advertising deal with Microsoft.
