Yahoo says it will introduce new technology next year that will improve the way search results are presented.

Instead of offering links based on a query, Yahoo will provide a summary of information behind a URL. Yahoo’s lab in India is developing the technology.

Rajeev Rastogi, vice president of Yahoo Labs Bangalore, said Yahoo Search "will be much more informative for a user, and will offer him a much richer web experience." The lab is working on automated information extraction, which goes into the URLs, through billions of pages and then pulls the relevant information.

Yes Yahoo needs to improve, anything to make it better and more efficient for the user. It sounds like a ton of work, hopefully it will give Google a run, they need competiton.

What is so special about “gluing” visual elements together in a search? What happened to the quality of the search….what isnt Yahoo focusing on the one thing that is keeping them so far behind Google? Microsoft tried to add AJAX-driven search pages and other junk and failed. So will Yahoo. It shows how far behind in innovation Indian web devs really are. No innovation there. It smells like some kooky Western CEO or management cooked up idea dreamed up on a golf course. If they want to innovate they need to work on the speed and quality and categorization of data using say, the semantic web or participating in a new Web Standard that will help drive better search by encoruaging better classification of content by both users and the hyperlink network that is the Web. Adding eye-candy and pretty pictures of products and prices wont catch on with most users, as it just interferes with ones ability to find what you are looking for. Thats why Google search is so darn simple and a bit ugly,. yet highly usable and making them so much money world-wide.

What is the big deal about this news, I can use Google to do the same thing with the option windows they provide, pulling up pictures, links, web pages, plus other options if I wanted to.

Yahoo needs to think way outside the box, dump all those who have used their URL’s to redirect web pages and fix or dump broken links, and stop allowing their search engines to be tricked by faulty or over used search words.

I so agree yahoo needs to improve, but they need to do it here inside the good ol USA and stop using technology that is way out dated, far behind and really think far ahead in to the future.. such as a one word search, and showing detailed information about that website, such as SSL, and other security information that only spiders can read, and allow the public to view these hidden elements.

Well the expectations are high and I guess I will be waiting for this new improved search Yahoo search engine.I guess countless hours and millions of dollars researched by Yahoo to improve it’s ranking in Search Engine has finally paid off but I would like to test this new search technology..

Go ahead and check out the new Yahoo search and see if you can find your websites. My early impression, with admittedly limited testing, when trying to find pages of my own that I can easily find in Google, I could not find either at all or easily in the new Yahoo search. I will do a more thorough search when I have more time.
