Users of Internet Explorer 6 (but not 7) and Firefox 1.5 should now see the redesigned Yahoo homepage in those web browsers.

The new look-and-feel for Yahoo’s main page that we reported on in March has been showing up in browsers everywhere.

Yahoo’s new main page design hasn’t really changed from what we observed a couple of months ago. The search box has a slightly different look for the tabs above it that narrow queries to particular types of information.

On the left side of the page, the list of Yahoo services can be edited by the user to just show the ones of most interest. Over on the right, the “personal assistant” box contains quick links to Yahoo Mail, Messenger, Radio, and weather, local news, and movie listings.

Above the fold, only one advertising box appears, in the sweet spot on the right side of the main page. American Express has its Blue Sky Travel Rewards card appearing there as of press time.

For visitors interested in an “inside look” at the redesign, Yahoo founders Jerry Yang, and David Filo appear in a video describing the changes. It also shows who “really” made all the big design decisions for the homepage, too.
