The MacArthur Maze closure in the San Francisco Bay Area has spurred Yahoo to meet the demand for alternate routes by quickly updating their Maps product.

I’ve driven in some challenging places. Chicago, Boston, Washington DC…don’t even get me started on the traffic circles in the Nation’s Capital. ‘Colonial’ is the most polite way I can describe them.

San Francisco traffic is something I’ve only seen as a detached observer, and it looks a lot like the New York and New Jersey traffic I grew up seeing. There’s a lot of it, and the highways are a true example of the old saying, “what a tangled web we weave.”

Yahoo has tried to weave a solution to the traffic nightmare through the World Wide Web. A spokesperson for the company said Yahoo performed a quick update of their Maps routing to account for the problem.

This alternate routing should help as more commuters look for ways around a mess that could take months to complete. Yahoo said the changes allow smooth detours for popular commute and weekend routes such as San Francisco to Walnut Creek, detouring commuters away from Interstate 580 and Highway 24.

Their service will show current conditions, and the status of the MacArthur Maze repairs, with the Maps
