  • Yahoo announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire mobile analytics firm Flurry. The company says it will use the acquisition to help it build and support mobile apps and monetization solutions.

Flurry has been around since 2008, has accumulated 170,000 developers, and sees app activity from 1.4 billion devices. It also sees 5.5 billion app sessions each day, and is used in 7 apps per device on average. 8,000 publishers from 150 countries use it to monetize their apps.

“Analytics are critical for all mobile developers to understand and optimize their applications,” said Scott Burke, SVP Advertising Technology at Yahoo. “We are reinvesting in developers and continuing to build great analytics products. Our combined scale will accelerate revenue growth for thousands of developers and publishers across the mobile ecosystem.”

“Our combined offerings will enable more effective mobile advertising solutions for brands seeking to reach their audiences and gain unique insights across desktop and mobile,” added Burke. “Our users will benefit from app experiences that are more personalized and inspiring.”

Yahoo’s mobile display and search revenue each grew over 100% year-over-year, despite the company’s overall disappointing performance. The company says over half of its total monthly audience visits on mobile device, and during Q2, over 450 million mobile monthly active users visited Yahoo (up 36% year-over-year).

Flurry’s team will stay put in terms of physical location once the acquisition goes through. Its products will continue to be available, but will be able to make use of Yahoo’s resources.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
