X-Men: Apocalypse Coming May 2016By: Meaghan Ellis - December 6, 2013
X-Men: Apocalypse already has a release date. But, don’t get things misconstrued. The ‘Apocalypse’ installment is not the one slated to be released in May of 2014. That installment would be ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.
“X-Men: Days of Future Past” hasn’t even hit the theaters yet, and there’s already news of yet another X-Men installment underway. Usually such announcements are just rumors based solely on speculation. However, this one came with an actual confirmation.
Entertainment Weekly confirmed with 20th Century that ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is tentatively scheduled to open in theaters May 27, 2016, and if that information isn’t enough ‘X-Men’ director, Bryan Singer also confirmed the next release.
Singer took to Twitter to share the announcement, While he’s been keeping fans posted with brief details on ‘Days of Future Past,’ he decided to raise the bar of anticipation yet again.
Although the small bit of information isn’t much to go by, as further details have not been released, it did garner enough attention to raise eyebrows. In the ‘X-Men’ world, just the mere mention of the name “Apocalypse” turns heads. Apocalypse is an infamous character from the X-Men series.
Born over 5,000 years ago, Apocalypse is one of the franchise’s most captivating mutants and super-villains. Apocalypse has a vast array of super-powers that he plans to use in an effort to achieve mutual authority.
The most notable story from the Apocalypse saga is the ‘Age of Apocalypse’ arc. The arc chronicles the reign of an Apocalyptic mutant who governs over an alternate Earth. In the role reversing story, mutants actually enslave and reign over human counterparts. Alternate forms of the X-Men also existed in the artificial reality.
So, if you’ve already marked your calendar for the ‘Days of Future Past’ release in May of 2014, you may as well flip ahead to May of 2016, and add the ‘Apocalypse’ installment to your dates. The X-Men are coming, and as far as Singer is concerned, there will be no slowing down any time soon!
