Microsoft’s Robert Scoble explores a new Google search feature, he calls “info tiles”-graphic tiles that provide a quick visual reference for the top search result-and admonishes his employer to up its game by digging more into this type of feature. If they can master this technology, the Microsoft employee may actually switch from Google to MSN.

Scoble compared the search results for [PLAY] across Google, Yahoo!, and MSN, to see which brought up the best result for his intention of finding the stock price for PortalPlayer, Inc.

Google was the only search engine to bring up exactly what he wanted along with a graph and other statistical information for the company.

“Here in a nutshell is why Google continues to get hyped by everyone including me (notice who I work for). Google suprises [sic] you. Delights you. Gives you what you want (not always, but more often than the other engines),” said Scoble.

Google didn’t win, however, in a subsequent search for [Ichiro Suzuki]. While Google delivered news and statistics for Suzuki, MSN produced a large tile with batting average, photo, and links to find more.

Scoble indicates that a more successful search engine will continue to develop these features and integrate advertising into them, along with an RSS feed.
