What is Google Offering With Google Offers?By: Chris Crum - June 6, 2011
This past week, Google launched its first offers on Google Offers in Portland. It remains to be seen just when Google will expand into other areas, but they already said that San Francisco and New York would be the next places. If you’re like me, you don’t live in Portland (or even in San Francisco or New York), so you may not have been compelled to sign up for Google Offers yet.
I signed up anyway, just to see what they’d offer me if I did live in Portland.
When you first sign up for the service, you get an email from the Google Offer Team saying:
Welcome to Google Offers! You will receive your first email shortly. Think of us as your personal concierge to Portland.
As a Google Offers subscriber, you’ll receive emails featuring an amazing Offer of the Day. From restaurants to recreation, we’re excited to bring you the best Portland has to offer at 50% off or more!
As Google revealed in its announcement on its blog, the first deal was from Portland coffee shop Floyd’s Coffee. “Husband-and-wife team Jack Inglis and Cris Chapman opened Floyd’s seven years ago, offering up espresso, coffee, breakfast burritos and more,” says Google Offers Product Manager Kyle Harrison. “They now have two convenient locations—one cozy, brick-lined shop in Old Town and another Stumptown watering-hole in Buckman.”
Here are a couple more offers I’ve received since then:
Google says it’s working with other local Portland businesses Le Bistro Montage, Powell’s Books, and Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade on other offers.
