  • VICE is known for its brutal news documentaries that take place in some of the most dangerous places on earth. In other words, they’re no stranger to the worst humanity has to offer. Some of the worst humans ever to exist were pirates, and that’s what led Ubisoft to partner with the publication to produce a documentary that explores the real history behind some of the history’s most infamous pirates.

In the first episode, VICE looks into the life of Charles Vane – a central character in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. While the game will undoubtedly take some liberties with his life, it will remain faithful to the fact that Vane was, for lack of a better word, an asshole. He would routinely cheat his men out of their rightful reward when returning from a successful raid. Even worse, he would torture and kill the sailors and merchants aboard captured vessels even when they surrendered without a fight.

To learn more, you’re going to want to watch the first episode of “Rum, Guns & Gallows:”

Episode 2, which delves into the history of Blackbeard, isn’t out yet, but you can see it first on VICE. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer for the episode below:

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be released on October 29 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. The PC version will be released on November 19, the PS4 version will be released on November 15 and the Xbox One version will be released on November 22.
