US Airways flight diverted its course earlier today after the crew was told by a woman that she had an explosive device surgically implanted somewhere inside her body. According to CNN, a French woman aboard the flight handed a note to a flight attendant describing the gravity of her situation. As a result, Flight 787 from Charles de Gaulle to Charlotte Douglas International was redirected by Bangor, Maine.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the flight was diverted to BGR, where it was met by law enforcement," the TSA explained in a statement. Doctors examined the woman, though they could not locate any recent scars. The unidentified woman was traveling alone without any luggage. Reports suggest that she had planned to stay in the United States for ten days.
The Boeing 767 reported had 179 passengers and a crew of nine on board the flight. After authorities were alerted to the situation, two F-15 fighter jets were scrambled to escort the plane to Bangor. It landed at the airport a little past noon.
The Joint Terrorism Task Force, which is backed by the FBI, is currently investigating the matter, though they don't feel this incident is related to terrorism.
