  • Rapper Trick Daddy’s music career lacks the steam it had in the early 2000s, but he finally made headlines again this week…but not for his music.

Thursday, Trick Daddy, whose real name is Maurice Young, was arrested at his Miramar, Florida home for cocaine and weapons charges.

According to the police report issued to MTV news by the Broward County Sheriff’s office, his charges also include, along with the cocaine and weapon ones, driving with a suspended license.

The Broward County Drug Task Force received a sniff warrant to search Young’s house. They were performing surveillance on it when he pulled up to the driveway. When approached by the task force, Young admitted he used cocaine and possibly marijuana before they arrived. During their search, the task force allegedly found 1 gram of a white, powdery substance (which was tested and proven to be cocaine), and a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol with ammunition.

Young was previously convicted in 1991 for cocaine possession, carrying a concealed firearm, and violating probation. He served two and a half years in prison. In 2003, he was also arrested on assault charges. Reports state that Young allegedly threatened to kill a man over a street basketball game. He was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Because of these charges, Young possession of a gun on his recent arrest is a felony because convicted criminals are not allowed to own guns of any kind.

Young was released early Friday on a $6,100 bond.

Young has collaborated with Pitbull, Young Jeezy, and Cee Lo Green. He began his rap career in 1993, and released his debut album Based on a True Story in 1997. Young followed up that one with 8 other records. Young’s biggest hit single was “I’m a Thug” in 2001. Young’s latest album, Finally Famous: Born a Thug, Still a Thug was released in 2009. Additionally, that was the year he announced he was suffering from Lupus.
