  • Trader Joe’s has issued a recall which affects their stone fruits, saying there is a possibility of bacteria contamination.

    The recall also affects Walmart, Costco, and Kroger stores and is nationwide. Although the company says there have been no reports of illness so far, there is the possibility that the fruits–mostly peaches and nectarines–contain Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause severe flu-like symptoms. The facility that packed the fruits was reportedly shut down and all machinery was sanitized.

    “We are aware of no illnesses related to the consumption of these products. By taking the precautionary step of recalling product, we will minimize even the slightest risk to public health, and that is our priority,” Wawona Packing Company President Brent Smittcamp said in a statement.

    Trader Joe’s has released a list of the affected fruit and the dates they were sold:

    Sold Individually (by the each) – June 2nd thru July 18th:
    Organic White Nectarine
    Organic Yellow Nectarine
    White Nectarine
    Yellow Nectarine
    Organic Yellow Peach
    White Peach
    Yellow Peach
    Organic Dapple Dandy Plumcot
    Plum

    Sold in 4LB Boxes – June 2nd thru July 19th (Julian Date Codes of 153 thru 193):
    Trader Joe’s Peaches 4LB Box
    Trader Joe’s Nectarines 4LB Box

    Some of the recalled fruit may also have been used in baked products at Wegman’s Food Markets; for a full list of products, go here. If you bought any of the fruit listed above at Trader Joe’s, you can take it back to the store for a full refund.
