Hitwise: Google Takes Nearly 2/3 Of Search

It was just last May that Hitwise reported Google controlled about 47 percent of the search market. What a difference nine months make. According to Hitwise's latest numbers, as of four days ago, Google captured 63 percent this month.

Of course that means a repeat of our monthly losers. You know who they are. They know who they are, and, apparently, are cool with it.

Later today, Google is expected to announce yet another blowout quarter. Nailing almost two-thirds of the searchers out there, that shouldn't be all that surprising. Some reports even have Google claiming 70 percent of the market overall.

Most surprising from Hitwise's report was AOL's search numbers. Though the company usually reports lower numbers for AOL than other metrics firms, AOL's search share has dropped to 0.54 percent. It wasn't too long ago, just about six months ago, that AOL brought in one percent.

I feel a Lynyrd Skynyrd song coming on.

But it shouldn't be too surprising, considering AOL employees don't even use AOL Search.

By the numbers:

1. Google: 63.06%
2. Yahoo: 21.4%
3. MSN: 9.95%
4. Ask: 3.54%
5. AOL: 0.54%
6. Other: 1.51%
